Collinson Ridge (12/10/03) Despite several attempts, we
were unable to
reach Collinson Ridge. The drop off location required that
we hike a good 3
to 4 miles in and out of the outcrop location. This would
not be a concern
if the weather were better, however, none of us were willing
to take a
chance with our past experience at Coal Sac Bluff. Collinson
was an
important location (see
additional Science Notes on Collinson Ridge) from both
a paleontological perspective (well preserved Permian and
Triassic fossils) and a possible
complete section for geochemical analyses. I hope to have
an opportunity to
return to this location in another Antarctic expedition.
