. . . The Connection to Mars

Future Investigations of Mars and Beyond Using Earth Analogs – Antarctica
With the current and planned missions to Mars and to some outer planetary moons such as Europa and Titan, NASA and NSF are now entering a new phase of planetary exploration strongly motivated by our search for life in the Solar System. Our interest in Mars is, in part, a result of recent studies of martian meteorites found in Antarctica that suggest that the early history of the red planet was remarkably similar to that of the Earth, where life apparently arose both quickly and early on. These meteorite discoveries and new knowledge from our current missions and research programs have engaged people's imaginations, informed teachers, and excited students and the public about science and exploration. Both NSF and NASA are committed to utilizing their resources to foster the broad involvement of the science community in education and public outreach (EPO) with the goal of enhancing the nation's formal education system and contributing to the broad public understanding of how scientist’s investigate past life on the Earth and prepare to search for life signs in our solar system.
